Never Let You Go
"Never Let You Go" In Purchase College Ad at Yankee Stadium
II am grateful to have received exciting TV Placements for my music, reminding me of my first placement which was well......a happy accident!
Rewind to 2015, my college roommate Rory Mazur (later a close collaborator and music attorney of mine), knocked on my door and played me a promising acoustic guitar & vocal demo of a song called "Never Let You Go". The demo had a fun melodic hook in the style of indie-pop artists like Cold Play.
From our first session, Rory and I quickly discovered our strengths in blending organic, recordings with dance, pop beats & vocal production. After developing the instrumental & lyrics, we recorded live bass, strings, guitar, and group vocals in studio. It was important that we incorporated recordings of traditional instruments suggested by Rory's melodies. Oh, and we had a great band name... "Reel Twin"!
After the song was completed, I learned about a contest at our undergrad, SUNY Purchase. The brief was simple - submit music for consideration for an advertisement at Yankee Stadium during a NYCFCC Soccer game. The soccer team practiced at Purchase - making this video the perfect co-promotion, or "Co-Promo" as we say in sync!
I sent a playlist and was asked to send in more songs. "Never Let You Go" was included in my second submission. I later received news the song had been selected for placement, knocking on Rory's door screaming "We're Going to Yankee Stadium"!
Rory and I attended a pre-screening of the advertisement in the college's Communications Department, where we got our first lesson in production music - simple works! The ad used our intro section which was mostly instrumental - indie pop guitars & dance drums with group vocals, and sparse lyrics - a perfect bed for scenics & dialogue.
The day of the game, I contemplated how my mix would translate to arena speakers, and was later relieved to hear our "Oh Ohs" SING in full glory from the bleachers - family & friends screaming "This is your song"! I looked at the jumbo screen playing our music, and was inspired to start my studio DTronic Sound Inc., helping artists create release ready music.
Maybe destiny, and unknown to me that this placement was called a "Sync" - I would later pursue admin & composing in the Synchronization industry - Oh, and...we left the "Reel Twin" song public on Soundcloud :)
